Not every gift is a blessing. She was psychic. She was born with a gift of knowing things that she wasn’t supposed to know, things about people, about the future, even about the past. She had to actively block out the knowing or it was just too overwhelming and sad. She could look at someone and see their whole life, even things the person didn’t remember. The funny thing was she had trouble remembering her own life. She needed a psychic to tell her about her life.
She was so overwhelmed with the sorrows of the world that sometimes she became very depressed. She felt guilty when she knew about bad things and then saw them happen. Shouldn’t she have somehow been able to stop the tragedies? What was the point of knowing things if you couldn’t change anything?
“You know not so you can change the future, but so you can be prepared,” said her grandmother, who also had what they called, “The Gift”. But what was the point? How could she be prepared and why? She wished to not have this gift. To be like her mother, since the gift skipped a generation, to be able to play as a kid instead of being overwhelmed with all the problems of the world.
Then one day she learned that not everything she saw was bad. There was a lot of good too, people helping each other, and love.
If she could focus on this maybe she could somehow bring more peace to the world.
